Student gardeners at Hawaii Preparatory Academy’s Ulumau Garden at the Village Campus won first place in the school garden pumpkin contest held Oct. 6 at the Parker School Farmers Market. The students worked under the guidance of Noah Dodd, HPA’s Ulumau Garden coordinator. The students of Ulumau Garden won a $100 prize and two books on organic gardening for having the largest pumpkin, which weighed in at 95 pounds. The students also won recognition and a ribbon for the smallest pumpkin.

The contest was organized and sponsored by the Waimea Town Market, in partnership with the Hawaii 4-H Junior Master Gardener Program, The Kohala Center, Crop Production Services, BEI Hawaii and the Kohala Mountain Farm Pumpkin Patch.
